This lovely mare survived years of starvation and neglect, and had many foals before she was rescued, heavily pregnant once again. Against all the odds she gave birth to a healthy foal, little Leo, survived colic surgery thanks to the timely and expert care of the Equine Hospital in Cordoba, pulled through a relapse when she and her foal had to stay at our vet’s, and managed to give her baby the best start in life. Sadly, her displaced colon could not be mended. After yet another relapse Steffi, together with her assistant Morgan and our wonderful vet Rocio, spent several nights sleeping at the Centre camping out in the barn or in cars, trying desperately to pull her through once again. Finally, we had to let her go to stop her pain. Fortunately her foal found a wonderful foster mother in Guapa, who had been rescued at the same time as his mother.
