The poor horse we rescued last week in such an appalling state is still with the ARCH vet, Rocío, where he is receiving the best of care and intensive daily treatment. His wounds are looking slightly better though his future is by no means certain. The severe injury and extensive infection means he will probably lose his sight in the damaged eye. It is being bandaged and painkillers have made him more comfortable so that he has stopped weaving and banging his head from the pain. The wounds from the apparent castration are still badly infected but less so. He has also begun to take an interest in his surroundings and stable mates. Fortunately, he has always been drinking and eating which is a good sign that he has not given up after his dreadful experiences.
We have named him Pirata (he has no chip so we cannot trace his real name). We will continue to update our followers on his progress.
