It was our wonderful animal rights’ lawyer Aritz, instrumental in the rescue of this neglected young buckskin mare, who named her Princesa. Unbelievably skinny, with a coat riddled with lice, her owner had tried to tidy her up for sale by starting to plait her mane which merely accentuated her shocking state.

She arrived at the Centre in February and her transformation has been miraculous. Proper care, attention and feeding turned her into a mentally, physically and emotionally different horse. Success stories like hers are the reason ARCH volunteers are motivated to keep on with their work.

Princesa, now living up to her name, left the Centre to go into foster with our long-time supporter Stefi who lives by the sea in Cadiz province, while we are waiting for her court case to come up. Stefi already has two other ARCH rescue horses and we are certain Princesa will not be leaving – she is being treated like royalty and has already won the heart of her foster mum who has long wanted a horse of her colour!
