Yet again ARCH has been asked by SEPRONA to take in an elderly grey mare in a very poor condition. Once again it is a case of an animal being discarded because they are too old to be of use, never mind that they have spent their working lives being “useful”. Such animals rarely show us that they have been loved and cared for, they are shut down, resigned and have little reason to believe human contact can be pleasant.
Lebrijana was abandoned near the town she was named after in the Province of Seville. A kindly neighbour had been feeding her for several months before SEPRONA stepped in to confiscate her. She is in her twenties and has a large melanoma under her tail. Our vet thinks that this is purely external and can be removed to give her a better quality of life. ARCH has to find the funds to pay for the operation and her keep during post-operative care.
Thanks to some generous donations we have now got enough to book the operation. Our vet will take Lebrijana to her premises in early December and keep her there while she recovers. Then she will return to the Rescue Centre.
