It was another of those sad days at ARCH when we recently had to say goodbye to Pirata. This dear old boy had been at the Rescue Centre since July 2022 when he was discovered down on a river bed with serious injuries to his eye and his penis, as well as a wound suggesting a botched castration. Nearby was the body of another horse. He had no microchip and it was never possible to track down and prosecute his heartless owner who had obviously left him to die.
After months of veterinary care, including surgery, Pirata continued to enjoy life at the Centre. Though he never found a home he was much loved and the darling of many ARCH volunteers since he was such a gentle soul. He will be missed.
