The Andalusian Rescue Centre for Horses (El Centro Andalusi de Rescate de Caballos) has now been recognised as Utilidad Publica by the Spanish Ministry of the Interior. It follows many years of tireless work rescuing abused and abandoned horses, ponies and donkeys and rehabilitating and rehoming them, since ARCH was founded in 2009. This reflects the growing awareness of the importance of animal welfare in Spain as well as the tangible impact of stronger animal protection laws. ARCH has close links with the authorities, working with SEPRONA and the local Police. It has a government contract to rehome retiring cavalry horses, and is contracted to take in abandoned equines in Alhaurin el Grande. The charity plays an active role in the community, educating the younger generation in equine care, welcoming school visits and hosting open days.
ARCH President and founder of the charity, Jill Newman-Rogers commented “This is a very important milestone for ARCH, few animal charities are granted the title of Utilidad Publica. With our new status we anticipate a greater intake of equines at risk, so donations are essential for our work, as are our dedicated team of volunteers. Please support El Centro Andalusi de Rescate de Caballos and consider a lasting legacy by including us in your Will.”
